Please help us in our mission to serve and deliver books to the children of all communities!

Are you an educator or organization in need of books for the children?

SWEET READS encourages the love of reading at an early age!

We work with communities and schools to fulfil our mission of getting books in every child’s hands. Contact us if you would like to work with us to achieve this dream, or support us from a distance with sweet donations. Here are some of our initiatives.

Our Story
Who are we?

Sweet Reads is a 501(c)(3) non profit dedicated to providing children with access to books and helping to encourage an early love of reading. We work with various schools and community organizations to address their literacy needs and curate libraries or book bundles for children to grow their personal collections. Additionally, we facilitate teen community engagement and philanthropy by having them serve as volunteers and establishing Sweet Reads high school clubs. Sweet Reads primarily works in communities in NY and NJ but excitedly now has Sweet Reads international libraries in Ghana, Haiti, and Nigeria! Sweet Reads also celebrates diverse authors through conducting interviews, storytime and featuring their books.

In addition to empowering younger children with providing access to books, Sweet Reads fosters teenage community engagement and leadership by facilitating the founding of Sweet Reads clubs at high schools.

01

The Challenge

It is a well established fact that children who live in low-income households have less access to books and age appropriate reading materials than those who live in higher income households.

02

Our Approach

SWEET READS shares new and gently used books to children in under resourced communities, diversifies books in schools and community organisations and hosts engaging literacy events.

03

Sweet Donations

SWEET READS empowers children by providing them with access to engaging and diverse books, and encouraging the love of reading at an early age. Please help us in our mission.

What people say about us
  • When I first began volunteering with Sweet Reads four years ago, I experienced for the first time what people truly mean when they say “my heart is full” when I read to kids who were ridiculously excited to be read to. My involvement in Sweet Reads has evolved since then; co-founding a Sweet Reads club at my high school has shown me how needed the services we provide are for the fulfillment of both the students we volunteer for and the students who volunteer. Being a part of this amazing organization has not only made me appreciate the gift of literature more, it has allowed me to share this gift with others and then some.

  • The Somerset Hills School District has been incredibly fortunate to work closely with Sweet Reads for the past several years. Every holiday season our ESL students are able to bring home a collection of new books generously donated by Sweet Reads. It helps make sure that all our students have access to reading at home to foster a lifelong love of books!

  • Partnering with Sweet Reads is one of the best decisions we could have made as a district that values reading and cares deeply about getting books into the hands of kids. The support from the organization has been invaluable, and we’re so grateful for the  hundreds of books they’ve been able to donate to our community.

  • The energy, dedication, and authentic passion to pursue the mission of its organization makes Sweet Reads an invaluable community partner.  In addition to the fundraisers and events they host, when I become aware of a need in schools or other local organizations, Sweet Reads, does everything possible to fill that need by connecting with school and community leaders, hosting events at schools, and putting books into the hands of some of the most vulnerable members of our community.  Sweet Reads’ founder, Tamiko Hubbard is an inspiration to me. Tamiko and her volunteers serve as an important and reliable source of support where it is needed most and have shown me that together we can do more.”
